Knee sleeve guide
Which Rehband knee sleeve is right for you?
The right knee sleeve depends on how you move and how much support you need. For running and fast, dynamic sports, choose the RX Knee Sleeve 3mm. For CrossFit, Hyrox and functional fitness, the RX Knee Sleeve 5mm is the all-rounder. For heavy squats and deadlifts, go for 7 mm: the RX Knee Sleeve 7mm if you also move dynamically, the RX Original V for static lifts – and the Power Max models when you need maximum support.

Every Rehband knee sleeve explained
Who each sleeve is for – and how it differs from its neighbour.
QD Knee Sleeve
The easy way into knee support. The QD Knee Sleeve combines 3 mm neoprene with a 2-panel design for warmth, light compression and a high degree of flexibility – ideal for everyday life, hiking and longer, moderate workouts. It also protects your knee against scrapes and is our most affordable sleeve.
QD or RX 3mm? Both are 3 mm thick. The patented 4-panel design of the RX Knee Sleeve 3mm follows the knee more closely in fast, deep movements – the better choice for running and sport.
RX Knee Sleeve 3mm
The lightest sleeve in the RX line, made for sports with constant, dynamic movement: running, football, tennis and padel, cycling, water sports and martial arts. Its patented 4-panel design is modelled on the anatomy of the knee, so the sleeve moves with you, stays in place and fits slim under tights – light compression with almost unrestricted freedom of movement.
RX 3mm or RX 5mm? The 3mm gives you more freedom of movement, the 5mm more support under load. If your training includes squats and lifts, choose the 5mm.
RX Knee Sleeve 5mm
Our best-selling knee sleeve and the all-rounder for CrossFit, Hyrox, functional fitness and HIIT – and for jump-heavy sports like basketball and handball. 5 mm neoprene gives you real support under the barbell, while the patented 4-panel design keeps you mobile for box jumps, runs and burpees. If you train varied and want one sleeve for everything, start here.
RX 5mm or RX 7mm? The 5mm is more flexible and more comfortable in long workouts. The 7mm gives you more support and warmth for heavy squats.
RX Knee Sleeve 7mm
Strong support that still moves with you. 7 mm neoprene delivers high compression, warmth and stability for heavy squats, Olympic weightlifting, bodybuilding and intense CrossFit WODs – one of our lifting knee sleeves. Thanks to the patented 4-panel design modelled on the knee, it is our best 7 mm choice for training that combines heavy loads with dynamic movement.
RX 7mm or RX Original V? Both offer 7 mm support. The RX 7mm is built for dynamic training, the Original V for purely static lifts like squats and deadlifts.
RX Original Knee Sleeve 7mm
A classic that has proven itself with world-class athletes for decades. The RX Original Knee Sleeve combines 7 mm neoprene with a 2-panel construction, side seams and a hard-wearing outer surface – firm compression, warmth and support for short, heavy sessions in weightlifting and bodybuilding.
RX Original or RX 7mm? Same thickness, different construction: the 4-panel design of the RX 7mm follows the knee better in dynamic movements, the Original is the proven choice for classic heavy strength training.
RX Original V Knee Sleeve 7mm
Made for heavy, static lifts. The RX Original V combines 7 mm neoprene with a 3-panel construction and a signature V-seam at the back of the knee that follows the joint into deep flexion – so the sleeve stays put instead of bunching. The first choice for powerlifting: squats, deadlifts and heavy strength work – see all powerlifting gear.
Not for CrossFit: for mobile, dynamic movements the RX Knee Sleeves 3mm, 5mm and 7mm are the better options – their patented 4-panel design is modelled on the anatomy of the knee.
Power Max Knee Sleeve 7mm
Our longest and strongest 7 mm knee sleeve. At 30 cm, the Power Max is 17.65% longer than a standard sleeve and covers more of the joint. The extra-tight cut, patented anatomical shaping and 4-panel design deliver maximum compression and stability for your heaviest squats in powerlifting, weightlifting and bodybuilding – and suit tall athletes with long thighs.
Power Max or RX 7mm? Same thickness, but longer and tighter – more support and warmth, less freedom of movement.
Power Max Dual-Strap Knee Support
Maximum stabilization you can adjust. The Power Max Dual-Strap Knee Support combines 7 mm neoprene in a 4-panel design with two semi-flexible pulling straps, so you can fine-tune the support between sets. Developed together with strongman athletes for strongman, heavy weightlifting and power sports.
Dual-Strap or Power Max sleeve? Both give you extra-strong support. The Dual-Strap adds adjustable stability through its straps, the Power Max Knee Sleeve is the simpler slip-on option.
Thickness
3mm, 5mm or 7mm: which thickness do you need?
The thicker the neoprene, the more compression, warmth and stability – and the less freedom of movement. Just as important is the construction: the patented 4-panel design of the RX sleeves is modelled on the anatomy of the knee and moves with you, which makes the RX 3mm, 5mm and 7mm the best options for dynamic training. Classics with 2 or 3 panels, like the RX Original V, are built for static, heavy lifts.
There are three different thicknesses of knee support, all designed for different usage areas. The 3mm knee sleeve provides ideal support for high-agility or endurance workouts. The 5mm benefits the athlete in varied training where both agility and support are required. The 7mm offers powerful stabilization for heavy lifting.
Light support
3 mm – speed and endurance
Light compression and maximum freedom of movement for running, football, tennis and padel, cycling and other sports with constant, dynamic motion.
Medium support
5 mm – the all-rounder
Support under the barbell plus full mobility – the go-to thickness for CrossFit, Hyrox, functional fitness and HIIT.
Strong to extra-strong support
7 mm – heavy lifting
Maximum compression, warmth and stability for heavy squats, weightlifting, powerlifting, strongman and bodybuilding.
What does a knee sleeve do?
A knee sleeve wraps the joint in compressive neoprene. That does three things: it keeps the knee warm and increases blood flow, it improves proprioception – your sense of where your knee is and how it moves – and it provides mechanical support under load. Your knees feel more stable, you move with more control and you can train harder for longer. Physiotherapist Johan Bohlin explains the mechanics in detail in How do knee supports work?.
Unlike knee pads, sleeves have no padding. Unlike rigid braces, they don't restrict your natural range of motion – which is why athletes wear knee sleeves in training and competition.
A knee sleeve is training gear, not a medical treatment. If you're dealing with persistent knee pain, see a doctor or physiotherapist – and read our injury guide on common conditions such as runner's knee and jumper's knee.
Sizing
How should a knee sleeve fit?
A knee sleeve should fit tight – noticeably tighter than a sock – without cutting off circulation or pinching behind the knee. If you can pull it on effortlessly, it's probably too big; if your foot tingles, it's too small.
Measure your knee circumference as shown in the video below and compare it with the size guide of your sleeve: RX 3mm, RX 5mm, RX 7mm or QD – the other models have their size chart on the product page. Between two sizes? Competitive lifters often size down for maximum rebound, while athletes in dynamic sports usually stay true to size for comfort.

FAQ
Knee sleeve questions, answered
Which knee sleeve is best for CrossFit?
For most CrossFit athletes, the RX Knee Sleeve 5mm is the best choice: enough support for squats and cleans, enough mobility for box jumps, runs and burpees. If your programming is heavy, go for the RX Knee Sleeve 7mm. Sleeves made for static lifts, like the RX Original V, are less suited to CrossFit – the patented 4-panel design of the RX sleeves moves better with dynamic movement. More in our article CrossFit knee sleeves: a must-have.
Which knee sleeve is best for Hyrox?
We recommend the RX Knee Sleeve 5mm for Hyrox: it supports you through sled pushes, lunges and wall balls and stays comfortable over the running kilometres. If you mainly want warmth and maximum freedom of movement, the RX Knee Sleeve 3mm is the lighter option.
Which knee sleeve is best for running?
The RX Knee Sleeve 3mm. It is light, stays in place and fits slim under tights, so it moves with your knee over thousands of strides. Thicker sleeves like the Power Max are too stiff and warm for running.
Which knee sleeve is best for squats and powerlifting?
For heavy, low-rep squats and deadlifts, choose 7 mm. The RX Original V is made for static lifts, the Power Max Knee Sleeve 7mm gives you the most compression and length for max attempts, and the Power Max Dual-Strap adds adjustable straps. If squats are just one part of a varied workout, the RX Knee Sleeve 5mm is the more versatile choice.
What is the difference between the RX Knee Sleeve 7mm and the RX Original V?
Both are 7 mm thick and give you strong support. The RX Knee Sleeve 7mm has the patented 4-panel design modelled on the knee and moves with you in dynamic training like CrossFit. The RX Original V has a 3-panel construction with a V-seam at the back of the knee and is made for static lifts like squats and deadlifts.
What is the difference between the Power Max Knee Sleeve and the RX Knee Sleeve 7mm?
Both use 7 mm neoprene and a 4-panel design. The Power Max is 30 cm long – 17.65% longer than a standard sleeve – and cut extra tight, so it delivers more compression and stability for max-effort lifts, but less freedom of movement.
3mm, 5mm or 7mm – what if I do several sports?
Match the sleeve to your most frequent training. If you mix dynamic and heavy sessions evenly, the RX Knee Sleeve 5mm is the strongest all-rounder – it's our best-selling knee sleeve for exactly that reason.
Should I wear one knee sleeve or two?
That's personal preference. Many strength athletes wear two for symmetry, while some runners only sleeve one knee. The QD, RX 3mm, RX 5mm and Power Max Dual-Strap are available as a single sleeve or a pair; the RX 7mm, RX Original, RX Original V and Power Max Knee Sleeve come as a pair.
Can I wear knee sleeves for every workout?
Yes. Many athletes wear them every session for warmth and consistency. Just take them off during long rest periods so your skin can breathe.
What's the difference between a knee sleeve and a knee brace?
A sleeve provides compression, warmth and support while keeping your full range of motion. A rigid brace restricts movement and serves a different purpose. For sports performance, a sleeve is what you want – here's how knee supports work.
How do I wash a knee sleeve?
Hand-wash or machine-wash cold on a gentle cycle, then air-dry. Regular washing keeps the neoprene fresh – especially after sweaty sessions. See our full care guide for more on washing, drying and removing odour.
