Norwegian handball has few equals on the international stage. Håndballjentene, Norway’s women’s national team, is the reigning World and European champion and one of the most decorated teams in the sport, with Olympic gold medals in 2008, 2012 and 2024, five World Championship titles and ten European Championship titles. Håndballgutta, the men’s national team, is a two-time World Championship silver medallist and co-hosted the EHF EURO 2026 alongside Denmark and Sweden. Norway will welcome the continental stage again in 2028, when the country co-hosts the Women’s EHF EURO together with Denmark and Sweden.
Founded in 1937, the NHF oversees handball at every level in Norway — from the women’s, men’s, junior, youth and beach handball national teams to the national leagues and the development of clubs, coaches and officials through its regional federations. With roughly 146,000 members in more than 800 clubs, it is one of the largest sports federations in the country.
