Why do you get Periostitis

Possible causes

  • Overuse or repetitive stress from high-impact activities
  • Poor footwear or inadequate support
  • Sudden increases in training intensity or duration
  • Biomechanical issues (e.g. flat feet, overpronation)
  • Insufficient recovery time between workouts
  • Poor running technique

Symptoms

  • Localized pain on the inner side of the lower leg
  • Tenderness and swelling around the affected area
  • Discomfort that worsens during activity
  • Pain that may radiate to adjacent areas

Treatments

  • Rest and ice application to reduce inflammation
  • Physical therapy to address biomechanical issues
  • Gradual return to activity with modified training plans
  • Reducing activities that trigger pain
  • Alternative excercise e.g. swimming and cycling
  • Anti-inflammatory medicine or ointment
  • Good shoes and/or soles or inserts to make up for when the shoe's function is insufficient or when there is a need for special support or relief
  • Stretches for muscle tightness, balance or coordination exercises
  • Warming leg protector to promote blood circulation
